The HIV/AIDS Awareness Outreach

Together for Sudan AIDS awareness volunteers
Volunteers are vital

This project, virtually unique in Sudan, has been funded by The Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD) since it began in 2002 with the approval of the Sudan National Aids Project.

The HIV/AIDS Awareness Outreach, conducted by three teams of volunteers and trainers, annually reaches more than15,000 people in the displaced communities which surround Khartoum. Among our local partners for this project is the People Living with AIDS Care Association, a group of northerners, southerners and westerners, many of whom are outcasts, who by their efforts to deal with the growing AIDS pandemic in Sudan are making a valuable political and social statement.

We hope to expand the small home based care component (HBC) which operates within the HIV/AIDS Awareness Outreach. The vital HBC effort benefits from the services of supervised volunteers who make twice monthly visits to the homes of people living with AIDS where they provide befriending and such items as simple foods and soap.
