This project merges our scholarship project for marginalised and
impoverished children and the Aids Orphans Project
which began in 2002. New scholarships are awarded only to AIDS orphans,
defined as children whose parent, parents or guardians have died of AIDS
or have been incapacitated by HIV and whose surviving relatives are
unable to fund their education. These children would not
be educated or able to continue their studies without Together for Sudan
support. Community volunteers help select the scholars and help with
monitoring.
The Episcopal Church of Scotland provided most welcome support for three years and
for the last two years the Saudi-based charity ICING has been our major
donor for this project. But the needs are enormous and, if funds were
available, we could expand the project, for example for better support with uniforms, books and
feeding, over 250 AIDS-affected children, and by expanding the number of
children who benefit from it.
